Winter Skin Saviour: Selexir Peace Balm review

Saturday 5 January 2013

Selexir Peace Balm* (75ml, £99, link)

I was recently introduced to The Urban Retreat Beautique, a high-end online shop which specialises in stocking the world's most coveted luxury beauty brands.  One of their latest additions to an already impressive list of brands, is the swiss born Selexir, and their Peace Balm Instant Serenity Treatment.

Selexir's Peace Balm is one of those wonderful multi-purpose products that I love using in winter on my dry skin.  It's a super thick salve that has been formulated with 21 highly concentrated natural ingredients and it has a very subtle herbal scent reminiscent of these key natural ingredients (this scent, though already subtle at first, completely disappears once its absorbed into the skin).  Peace Balm can be used on the most extremely dry and irritated skin to soothe, hydrate, firm and renew it back to its former glory and it reminds me a lot of Elizabeth Arden's Eight Hour Cream (minus the scent of course!) and Weleda's Skin Food, but much richer in formula and texture.

As I've been plagued by a few eczema flare ups recently, I have found this to work an absolute treat in calming everything down, especially when it comes to reducing that incessant need to itch!  I also like that it absorbs into the skin quickly and doesn't feel like it's just sitting on top like some other balms and salves do.

The 75ml sample tube that I was sent retails for £99 making this an incredibly luxe product, but it also comes in a 30ml size for £39.  Expensive, but I gotta say it just works wonders.  Luckily, a tiny amount of this goes a very long way!

Selexir's Peace Balm is dermatologically tested and free from paraffin, parabens, petroleum and silicones.

  1. Wow, that sure is pricey! But it sounds very soothing and luxurious, anything that can minimise itchiness is always a plus :)

  2. I've suffered an eczema flare up this last week (most likely from exam stress!) and have been looking for something like this to use as I don't have my usual eczema lotions and potions with me at university. I love the sound and look of this product (your photos really make the packaging look stunning) but the price makes it, sadly, unaffordable to me. But definitely for those out there who rely on products like this (especially in the short term) it's most likely money well spent as the quality of this sounds amazing xx

    1. It is very expensive and I know that I'd struggle to afford a replacement when it runs out so I'm going to have to ration it or something! My favourite (more affordable) products that I find work really well for eczema are things like LUSH's Dream Cream, Barefoot SOS Rescue Lotion, Lavera's All Round Cream and Weleda's Skin Food. Would recommend any of those and they're all under £15 xx

  3. I'm not sure I could personally spend that much on a product like this, but it does sound utterly wonderful.xo

    1. I think I'll have to save up and buy the much the smaller tube when this one runs out myself. It's a fantastic product, but definitely on the higher end of the market! xx

    1. Yeah, it's an amazing product but I think I'd only ever be able to afford to buy the 30ml size myself in the future x

    1. Hi Yuri, thank you, that's very kind of you to say that! :)

My main photography tip would be to get yourself a light box - it really helps to illuminate everything, especially if you're taking photos on a day where natural daylight is limited like in winter, and keeps things looking bright and crisp. Other than that, I'd recommend a mini tripod to make sure everything stays in focus, and of course the macro setting on a camera is a blogger's best friend :) Hope that helps! xx
